Eva, an Indonesian woman and I, an American, did the Na Trang – Da Lat trip by motorcycle In April 0f 2009. I was surprised when she fell asleep holding onto my waist from the back of the motorcycle as we travelled through the cold rain and mountain fog with zero visibility.
We did the round trip in a single day, and it was my favorite day of a 3 week vacation throughout SE Asia. As we descended the mountains and made our way back into Na Trang, I informed Eva that we had been traveling without any brakes, I was just downshifting to slow. The lack of brakes made things a bit hairy as the rear wheel would slide from compression braking. She took it all in stride as brakes are a considered a luxury item in her Indonesian village.
I proposed to Eva on September 11, and we will be married in Bali on November 27.
I think we photographed the same kids that appear in your photo.
